Hi! I'm Melissa.
I’m passionate about empowering those struggling emotionally or physically in their relationship with their spouse or with their own past sexual traumas.
Besides working with couples and individuals facing difficulties regarding sexual experiences, I have a heart for those struggling with their own identity. I understand topics surrounding sexual traumas, sexual experiences and sexual identities have been handled as shameful by many in the Christian world. I want to create a safe place in which to find healing and bringing down the stigma and shame around it. Besides this I also work with Partner Betrayal Trauma.
How my passion developed
Growing up, I realised how many in a conservative culture attached shame to all topics regarding sexuality and sexual experiences. This lead to the belief that sex is bad – it’s dirty.
I also realised how prevalent child sexual abuse was as well as promiscuity amongst teenagers. The emotional wounds resulting from these experiences are much deeper and handled with much more secrecy and shame than any person could handle alone.
In encountering different couples as friends in Christian circles, there has often been the unwritten rule that sex is something we must just get on with on our own – no one speaks about it and it is assumed that no one has problems. I am discovering that this could not be further from the truth!!
When seeing couples, my heart is to see married couples work through their lack of connection, and communication, with the end goal of having that spark restored.
In couples therapy some may also seek to explore why certain minefields exist in their bedroom – and how to disarm these. The aim is to have a fun and fulfilling sex life and gain understanding for what common sexual problems are.
